   Risk Management and Employee Benefits ELIGIBILITY

When Insurance Begins - For new hires or returning employees, the waiting period for employee benefits will be the first of the month coinciding with or next following 30 days after your employment date. (example: if you are hired on March 15th your coverage date begins May 1st). Employee(s) must complete application for medical coverage within 45 days of hire or transfer to an eligible position.

When Insurance Ends - All employees lose eligibility at the end of the month following the loss of employment or transfer to a non benefit-eligible position. Exception: Instructional bargaining unit members who work through the last day of their contract will receive benefits through August 31st.

Regular Full-Time - 37-1/2 hours a week or more. School District provides a paid core benefit package and employee may elect to purchase family insurance coverage and/or additional benefits.

Part-Time (Hire Date on or before July 22, 1997): Scheduled to work at least 20 hours but less than 37-1/2 hours per week. These employees are "grand fathered" and have the same benefits as full-time employees.

Part-time (Hire Date after July 22, 1997) or Shared Teaching Position: Scheduled to work at least 20 hours but less than 37-1/2 hours per week. School District provides a 50% contribution towards the cost of the core benefits package offered to full-time employees. Employee may choose one or more benefits from this package and pay the additional 50% of the cost. Part-time/Shared employees are not eligible to purchase dependent coverage.

Temporary employees, summer school employees, substitutes and employees working less than 20 hours a week are not eligible for benefits. Interim teachers are only eligible if hired for a full semester (approx. 6months).

Dependents: Eligible dependents are:

  • your legal spouse;
  • your own unmarried children;
  • children for whom you have been appointed legal guardian;
  • stepchildren and legally adopted children (provided they reside in your household and primarily depend on you for support.)

Children are eligible to the end of the calendar year in which they reach age 19 (or age 25 if they are dependent upon the employee for support and are either living in the employee's household or a full or part-time student). Exceptions are provided for disabled children.

Note: You must notify Employee Benefits when eligible dependents are no longer eligible for coverage.
